Nate GreyReal Name: Nate Grey
Codename: X-Man
Relatives: Biological son of X-Men Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey.
First Appearance: X-Man #1 (1995)

Biography:

X-Man begain in the Age of Apocalypse crossover in 1995. Nate Grey was created by Sinister, who intended to use Nate as the ultimate weapon against Apocalypse. Instead, Nate was freed from Sinister by Cyclops. Following the Age of Apocalypse, Nate was transported to the regular Marvel Universe, where he made his new home.

The X-Man comic series was pretty aimless following the Age of Apocalypse, as he danced on the periphery of the X-Men universe, often coming into conflict with other members, including his mainstream-universe counterpart, Cable, due to his misunderstanding of the world around him. X-Man also crossed over with Spider Man as the titles' two main characters shared a common bond in their feelings of lonliness and alienation.

Threats from the Age of Apocalypse eventually began to reappear, and X-Man made it his goal to insure that his new home would not fall victim to the same destruction as his own.

The ultimate realization of this new purpose was revealed near the tail-end of the series where Nate became a mutant "Shaman" who saw it as his duty to protect the earth. Reinvented by Warren Ellis and written by Steven Grant, the stories took Nate to alternate Earths and pitted him against otherworldly, metaphysical menaces, until he ultimately sacrificed himself to save his adopted Earth.

X-Man ran 75 issues monthly, from 1995 to 2001. Issues 1-4 took place during the Age of Apocalypse crossover.

Powers:

X-Man was genetically engineered to be the ultimate weapon. He possesses powerful telekinesis and telepathic abilities, which enable him to crush mountains, rearrange molecules, and control the minds of crowds. His original body was designed to destroy itself once he outlived his purpose, but in his conversion to mutant Shaman his body was rebuilt without that constraint. In his new body, X-Man has shown the ability to bend space to travel to different earths parallel, above and beneath his own.
